Eminence, Missouri
Equine-Related Retreats
Retreats that combine equine activities, therapeutic sessions, and socialization opportunities offer comprehensive experience for children aged 16-21 in foster care and others 16 and up. The combination of therapeutic interventions, recreational experiences, and skill-building opportunities addresses the diverse needs of those who have experienced traumas in foster care.
During the retreats, participants are responsible for taking care of their equine partner and overcoming challenges encountered on a trail, which can be applicable to everyday life. The partnership with the horse, along with skill-building activities and a confidence-enhancing environment, aims to help the individual develop a sense of self-worth and improve their overall quality of life.
This unique opportunity is available from May to October. We provide comprehensive training on riding and safety, utilizing our indoor arena to ensure all participants are well-prepared for the ride.
Daily sessions run from 9 am to 3:30 pm, during which participants will prepare for rides, care for horses, and explore therapeutic relationships with horses both on the ground and on horseback. Our organized trails in Eminence include team-building activities, obstacles, waterways, and encounters with wildlife.
We facilitate evidence-based equine-assisted education and horsemanship, promoting therapeutic growth through immersion in nature. Participants will collaborate as a team to care for the horses, prepare for rides, and set up camp. Additionally, we offer intentionally therapeutic campfire sessions and mindfulness practice both on the ground and on horseback.
CCTR provides daily buffet meals three times a day, nightly live bands, dancing, fun shops, and equine stores. During warm or hot weather, floating trips and river swimming are also available exclusively at CCTR. Accommodation includes hammocks, air mattresses, and tents.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Ozark Hills, valleys, and creeks within Angeline Conservation or Castor River Conservation, accessible only on horseback. While on the trails, various lookout points will allow for moments of connection with nature and personal reflection.
Each participant will be thoroughly trained in riding, best safety practices, and will gain confidence in our onsite indoor arena before embarking on trails. The camaraderie and shared purpose experienced during this program will foster lasting benefits, enabling participants to reconnect with themselves, their families, and their communities.
